The doors are open! This morning (23 September) Newholme Health Centre opened its doors for patient care for the first time. Well done to all DCHS colleagues who made sure it was “clinic ready” after a mammoth moving in operation over the past week to ensure everyone – and everything – was ready, steady, go. Today marks the culmination of a huge amount of work over many years to create this amazing new facility. You can look back at some of the milestones in its development here.
Freedom to Speak Up - Speak Up Month, October 2024: Every year in October we celebrate Speak Up Month – a month to raise awareness of Freedom to Speak Up and make speaking up business as usual for everyone. The theme for this year’s Speak Up Month is ‘Listen Up’ and we will be focusing on the power of listening, and the important part which listening plays in encouraging people to feel confident to speak up. We’ll be sharing lots of information throughout the month to remind everybody about the importance of speaking up and the various routes for raising a concern. Click here for more details.
Autumn sexual health network event, women's sexual health - 'Let's start the conversation': Join us on Wednesday 16 October or Thursday 17 October for a vital event focusing on women’s sexual health, following the launch of the first Women’s Health Strategy for England. This strategy addresses disparities in healthcare services for women, particularly around contraception and access to sexual health services for marginalised communities.
We will explore the impact of this national strategy at a local level in Derby and Derbyshire, offering valuable resources and current insights to better support the communities we serve.
Key highlights:
- A session with Fumble, a UK youth charity, on supporting Trans-youth, sexual health conversations, and tackling health barriers like cervical screening
- A discussion with Kerry from the Sex Ed Book Club on "Losing It" by Sophia Smith Galer, covering topics like virginity, healthy relationships, and societal myths around sex.
If you work with women and those with a vulva and vagina in a community setting within Derby City or Derbyshire County, this event is perfect for you.

Understanding financial concerns - your experiences matter, come and take part in a confidential interview on this topic! This project aims to understand more about how financial concerns impact the health and wellbeing of NHS and council staff in Derby and Derbyshire. This will help organisations to better understand how to most effectively support staff who are experiencing financial concerns. Find full details on the project here. To get involved or ask any questions, please email Helena Lee. The deadline to take part in this is coming up soon so please contact Helena by Monday 14 October. The interviews can be arranged at a date and time that works for you.
What is quality assurance? With the help of a few familiar faces from around the Trust, we have created some short videos to explain what quality assurance is and why it is so important for our patients and staff. Everybody needs to know about quality assurance and these short videos are your one-stop shop for finding out everything you need to know.
New Datix incident training videos: Our how to report an incident training, which was previously delivered by MS Teams, has now been replaced with two new videos. Click the link here to view the videos for how to report a patient/client/customer incident and how to report a non-patient incident.
How have Quality Conversations helped our colleagues?
- “I have learnt to find the positive and focus on strengths.”
- “I will be encouraging the individual to make their own decisions. Using open questioning and open listening techniques.”
- “I will ask open questions, summarise, and not leap in to solve problems like a superhero.”
