CT scanner delivery at Ilkeston: Thanks to everyone who was involved in the delicate operation to manoeuvre the new CT scanner into Ilkeston Community Hospital over the weekend (28 September). It’s the latest step towards creating a fabulous Community Diagnostic Centre on site. You can read more about it here.
How our flu campaign will support local charities: This winter, we’re inviting colleagues to suggest local charities to benefit from our flu vaccination campaign. When you get your flu jab, not only are you protecting yourself and those around you, but you will also have a chance to support a local charity. This year we’re taking a slightly different approach in offering you a chance to decide on local charities to benefit when you have your jab. We believe in giving back to the communities we serve, and your feedback will help us choose some charities that make a real difference locally. For every flu jab we administer, we will donate £1 - the total will then be shared between the chosen charities. Share your suggestions with the communications team at dchst.communications@nhs.net before 25 October. All your suggestions will be compiled before the most popular ones are put to a vote later in the year. We are hoping to find two or three charities across the county to benefit from our flu campaign this year.
Flu vaccination clinics: You can book online to have your flu vaccination here. Locations of flu clinics this week include Babington Hospital, Walton Hospital, The Arc at Clowne, Clay Cross Hospital, Ripley Hospital, Cavendish Hospital and Whitworth Hospital. Or please feel free to drop-in to any of these flu clinics at any time. There are clinics across a number of our sites each week that staff can access - either book an appointment or just drop-in. Any questions, please email the team at dchst.flu@nhs.net and they will be in touch to assist you.
Need help accessing your flu training? Check out our latest tutorial video which takes you on a step-by-step guide on how to access flu immunisation and vaccine training as one of our vaccinators. Whether you’re new to the process or you just need a refresher, you will be guided through the process of how to access the modules here.

Inequalities research earns second round of grant funding: Our Research and Innovation Team have been awarded a £25,480 grant from the Clinical Research Network/Research Delivery Network enabling them to extend their health inequalities project looking at increasing diversity in research until March 2025. It follows the success of the first phase of their project, for which the team was awarded over £32,000.
Natasher Lafond, Vicky Davison and Tracey Elder originally applied for funding from January 2024 to September 2024 for completion of a public and patient involvement and engagement project. During the first phase of the work, they interviewed 108 people, asking about their experience of research and what the barriers and solutions are to help them to take part.
This new grant, beginning in October and to run until the end of March 2025, will enable them to refine their findings into a set of principles or guidelines to begin to support under-served communities to be included in research that can then be tested in Derbyshire. They said: “Most importantly this extra funding gives us the opportunity to continue working with the amazing people we have met as part of this project.”
The Research & Innovation Team are happy to support other aspiring researchers to start their research journey with help to signpost, apply for funding or support to build a research proposal and much, much more. Please contact the team at research.enquiries@nhs.net or visit MyDCHS for more information about the ways you can get involved in research at DCHS.

Congratulations to Maggie Eassom, one of our latest IRIS award winners. The nomination recognised Maggie, a health visitor from our Amber Valley Health Visiting team, as: “selfless and doesn’t know the difference she makes to the colleagues she comes across. She goes above and beyond for everyone. Every team base should have a Maggie, I'm sure she leaves a trail of sunshine and flowers wherever she goes!”
