National Quarterly Patient Survey (NQPS) results: Thank you to everyone who participated in the recent NQPS. Your input is invaluable in helping us identify trends and changes between each year’s national Staff Survey periods. The embargo on NHS Staff Survey results is due to be lifted on Thursday 13 March – we look forward to sharing our results with you then. However, in the meantime, we’re delighted that 86% of colleagues who responded to the NQPS would be happy with the standard of care provided by DCHS if needed by a friend or family member, and that 74% of respondents would recommend DCHS as a place to work. If you have any questions about either the main Staff Survey or the quarterly NQPS, please contact Simon Rose, staff engagement lead at simon.rose9@nhs.net.
Judging for the Nursing Times Awards: With the 2025 Nursing Times Awards now open for entries (deadline 9 May) we spoke with DCHS’ Lynne Yates who has a special insider’s perspective on the awards as one of last year’s judges! Lynne, and fellow DCHS clinician Gemma del Toro, were invited to judge different categories of the 2024 awards. You can take heart, as you may be grappling with writing your 2025 award applications, that the whole process will not be as labour intensive as the judging process, as Lynne explains here!
Datix how to report an incident - training videos: There are two training videos available to help staff with reporting of an incident:
- How to report a patient/client/customer incident
- How to report a non patient incident.

MS Teams Telephony Service: We are rolling out MS Teams to replace the current Vodaphone calling plans for telephones that are currently used on sites. All phones will be transferred to the MS Teams calling plans by the end of April. Where phones can be replaced by using your computer monitor to field calls rather than using a handset, this will cut down on the cost of the transition and enable the user to field calls anywhere (home/work) and make working more efficient. The telephony team will be working across all sites over the next few months. Click here for more information.
Ceremonial opening of Ilkeston’s new diagnostic facilities: On Friday we hosted a VIP visit to Ilkeston Hospital for the ceremonial opening of the hospital’s new £5.1m community diagnostic centre (CDC). A big thank you to all our capital and estates and IFM colleagues who have played such a pivotal role during the whole construction project and to the catering team for ensuring a warm welcome and refreshments for the visitors on Friday. It was also an opportunity for our chief executive Jim Austin to show local MPs Linsey Farnsworth and Adam Thompson around the hospital’s UTC before the ceremonial ribbon-cutting at the CDC by local fundraiser and hospital supporter Ian Jackson: New £5.1m Ilkeston hospital scanning centre 'relieving pressure' and 'improving outcomes'.
Community celebration events to mark research milestone: Our research and innovation team will share findings from an 18-month study into increasing research participation in under-served communities at two community events in March. The team was awarded over £57,000 in two separate grant awards by the Clinical Research Network/Research Delivery Network for their health inequalities study, and the findings will help future researchers to formulate their studies better to hear from under-served communities. To thank some of the local communities who made the research possible, and to share and celebrate the conclusion of this major research study, celebration events are being hosted at:
The Haven Community Centre
8 Station Road, Barrow Hill, Chesterfield, S43 2NL
Wednesday, 13 March 2025 | 3:30pm – 6:30pm.
The Hub @ Lower Pavement

Our High Peak and Dales 0-19 team recently welcomed Dr Ben Pearson. Ben joined them for some of their day-to-day activities in Glossop and New Mills, including a visit to our 0-5 clinic at Glossop Children’s Centre and a clinic for young people at New Mills High School. Read more on what they got up to here.
Celebrating the admin forum: Staff governor, Hazel Lea, launched the DCHS admin staff forum one year ago in February 2024. The forum meets every two months, usually on MS Teams, and consistently attracts around 80 attendees. They also have an MS Teams group with no fewer than 200 members. The forum is a place for peer support, sharing information and a safe space to bring discussion items. Anyone, regardless of banding, who classes themselves as 'admin', even if they don’t have the word admin in their job title, is welcome to attend.
- The forum's greatest achievement to date: They jointly developed the DCHS Admin People’s Charter – click here.
- Where to find more information: They have a page on the DCHS intranet – click here.
- How to join the admin forum: Email hazellea@nhs.net or laura.mcleavy1@nhs.net
- Upcoming celebration event: They have arranged their next admin forum as an in-person event at the Post Mill Centre on 23 April to celebrate National Admin Professionals Recognition Day – book your place here.
- Leaders: We would be grateful if your service is able to release interested admin staff to attend the event on the morning of 23 April if possible.
If you’d like to recognise an admin colleague or team, please email a short quote to show your appreciation for the brilliant work that they do. Just send it to: hazellea@nhs.net
