Staff engagement sessions on race and disability equality: We invite you to attend virtual sessions on 21 August, and 4 and 16 September to go through our 2025 information on the NHS Workforce Race Equality Standard (WRES) and NHS Workforce Disability Standard (WDES). WRES data highlights differences between the experiences and treatment of white and black, Asian and minority ethnic colleagues and WDES data compares workplace and career experiences of colleagues with and without a disability and/or long-term condition. The aim is to close the gaps highlighted through continuous improvement over time. Your participation will help shape a more inclusive workforce. Find out more here.

Oliver McGowan mandatory training in learning disability and autism – tier two: On 1 June 2025, the Oliver McGowan mandatory training in learning disability and autism (tier two) became mandatory for specific clinical and patient-facing staff groups. We will roll out the training in phases over the next year, starting with priority areas. For those identified, the tier two training will now appear in red on your ESR training passport, indicating it is required and must be completed. This is a face-to-face session (9:30am–4:30pm), delivered by a facilitating trainer alongside expert co-trainers with lived experiences. Just click on the red button on the ESR home portal page under the Oliver McGowan training tab – the training is bookable via the NCORE website. Where it asks for payment, please choose ‘invoice’. Any questions: gemma.nash6@nhs.net.
New national NHS uniform rollout – it’s time to measure up: The rollout of the new national NHS uniforms is underway, and we’re asking colleagues to get measured in preparation for our first order. This NHS-wide rollout will help ensure consistency, clarity, and inclusivity across all healthcare settings. It is also expected to save the NHS over £10 million. The new uniforms will be a different style and fit - they are gender neutral and much less form fitting - meaning we are moving into new, non-standard, sizing. This means we need to measure all clinical staff to determine sizes for our first bulk order by 25 July. The supplier will hold five sizing events in June from 9am to 5pm at these locations:
- 23 and 25 June: logistics office, Walton Hospital
- 24 June: Hopewell Ward, Ilkeston Community Hospital
- 26 and 27 June: Breakout Room 2, Level 3, Florence Nightingale Hospital.
If you are unable to attend one of these sessions you can self-measure using this measurement guide; this sizing chart; and find out how your new uniform should fit. Once you have obtained your measurements, please submit them to your local support staff before 25 July who will place the order. As we prepare for the rollout, please be mindful to limit orders of the current uniform where possible. Additionally, check if amnesty stock held by logistics can fulfil the requirements to avoid purchasing items during the next few months until the new uniforms arrive. Any questions: dchst.nationaluniform@nhs.net.
